It’s been a little over a week since we got to Colombia so I thought I’d give a quick update on our ministry partner!

For the next two months my squad and I will be working with Ciudad de Refugio in Medellin, Colombia. This organization amazes me everyday with the MANY ways they have found to serve their community. A five story building designed with so much intentionality and care for the people who find this place to be a refuge.

The organization runs a men’s recovery program, a women and children’s ministry, a Youth program on the weekends, church services Sunday mornings. While the garage is used for church it also turns into a homeless shelter every night. The bakery on the street level is run by men who are moving through the recovery program. Wednesday nights are for Augua Panela where the organization hands out bread and water to some of the most vulnerable people in Medellin. I look forward to writing more blogs in detail about each thing as we spend time here.

So far I can say that I feel God encouraging me to SLOW DOWN. I’ve always been a doer. If you give me a task I’ll take it on, do it to the best of my ability and be ready to move on to the next. The work being done here is so intentional and I’ve felt God telling me to invite him into it more. He wants to do it along side me not just hovering over me.
To be completely honest, I’m a bit nervous because I know Slowing down is not how I’ve been wired my entire life. I know that inviting him into it may not be instinctual just yet but once it is… Wow how sweet it will be.

SPOILER ALERT on a next potential blog post….

I’ve got plenty of time to slow down now as I am on my fifth day of Quarantine. Sunday morning I tested positive for COVID along with three other squad mates. Others have since gotten tested, we are all quarantined and taking a break from ministry until further notice. As we sit in quarantine we are starting 24 hours of prayer. At any point during the day and night there will be at least two people praying for our squad, Ciudad de Refugio and anything else God puts on our hearts.

Thank you for following along with me.

  1. I feel honored and special that I get to quarantine with you!! I’m excited for the ways the Lord is speaking to you in this time of slowing down and for how He is using you as a prayer warrior on this squad. Love you lots buddy
