Anyone who knows me knows I’m kind of a planner. I don’t consider myself to be spontaneous but instead I always have two or three back up plans, until The World Race. I found God calling me to an “Unscripted Route”, which meant I’d spend the year not with planned out ministry hosts but instead asking the Lord everyday what he had for me. After team changes a couple of weeks ago we found out we were going Unscripted for the whole month of May.

Let me tell ya, it’s been interesting.

The first couple of days we found ourselves staying at a hostel not knowing where we’d be or what we’d do for the ENTIRE month of May. We started by reaching out to a local contact to see if he knew of any pastors in the area that could use some help. I found a random church having a worship night 10 minutes from our hostel that we got to check out. We also reached out to a local Christian organization to see if they needed any help. In the middle of all this was a lot of down time which made the planner in me a tad bit stressed. (okay REALLY STRESSED) I didn’t want to try and plan everything out but instead felt the Lord continuing to grow my patience in trusting he had a plan.

Read below for a list of events I’m still IN AWE OF:

  • Within a couple of hours in the same day we had 2 places to stay and 2 pastors to help!
  • We are currently staying in a church FOR FREE for the rest of the month.
  • We get to help this church paint their kids ministry rooms and leave our mark with them.
  • We joined in on a volleyball game last Saturday with locals who welcomed us… AND our various skill levels.
  • The other day we were in an Uber when the driver asked what we were doing in the area. After some conversation he called his pastor who has a ministry in a beach town. I talked to a missionary there who is from the US and she invited us to visit ANY TIME!
  • I made small conversation with a different Uber driver and she told us about her brother who is studying in the US for a year. We asked if we could say a prayer for him and she said, “OF COURSE.” She then proceeded to hand her phone to me and we sent her brother a prayer through what’s app.

If the planning had been left to me I couldn’t have imagined anything close to what we’ve experienced in the last couple of weeks! Gods plan was sooo much sweeter. From encounters with Uber drivers, to sharing meals at a hostel with solo travelers who became friends, to living in a church and getting to help their vision come to life… the Lord has continued to surprise me EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

So my question to you is, “How can you live your life asking the Lord what he has for that day?”. Not worrying about tomorrow or yesterday but instead seeking him throughout TODAY. What random people could you meet? What humble conversations are waiting to be had with Uber drivers or on the train? What if you could be the answer to someone’s need and you don’t even know it yet?

As always prayers and encouragement are welcomed for my team and I. You can check out their blogs through the link below! (THEY ARE REALLY GOOD!) If you feel called to partner financially donations can be made through Venmo (Curiegas)

This is SO good! Proud of you for not just listening but mustering up the courage to obey as He calls you outside your comfort zone.

  6. Sister! Yes! God takes us on adventures that are so much better and sweeter and wilder than we could ever come up with on our own. He’s so good to us. Proud of you for embracing the uncomfortable and leaning in to the unscripted. Can’t wait to see what else God has in store for you!
